The Union Pacific West Line runs through downtown Wheaton and has been a fixture of Whe Eaton since its inception in 1884. It runs from downtown Chicago to its terminus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The main route from Warrenville to Naperville in the south is mainly to DuPage County Forest Preserve and the Chicago River Valley. Along the route is part of the DuPage County Forest Reserve, which includes a number of subdivisions including Briarcliffe, Stonehedge, Arrowhead and Scottdale. It serves as the main link between the North Side and South Side of Chicago and runs through the suburbs of Oak Park, Elgin, Lake Forest, Glenview, Oak Grove, Northbrook, South Chicago and West Chicago.

The park also houses two museums, one dedicated to the Chicago Tribune and the other to the First Division of the United States Army, in honor of Robert McCormick, who was a colonel in the First Division during World War I. The park also includes a number of monuments to Wheaton's history, including one that refers to Chicago's first mayor, John F. Kennedy Jr. and others that for the first time in its history were dedicated to Robert McCamish, the father of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, and a memorial to Senator Robert D. Rockefeller.

Downtown Wheaton, where the Whe Eaton Cafe is located, is picturesque in itself and is one of the city's most famous landmarks. The room is decorated with a pressed sheet metal ceiling and a large stained glass window, giving the atmosphere a unique "Wheaton" feel.
